Well, I very randomly decided to be proactive. Only a couple minutes after this idea came into my head, I wrote an email. A minute or two later I decided to put her name in the "to" field and I hit send! Here's what I wrote:
"Hey, I have a random question. :)
Would [your son] be interested in learning French? As you probably know, I plan on teaching French to children, and it’s very…daunting? Basically, I want practice. Not to say that I’m using your son as a test subject or anything :), but I’d be willing to give free lessons (ie free babysitting, too) if you guys are interested…
Haha I know its really random, so if you guys are too busy or anything I definitely understand!
Amy"
She responded rather quickly with,"Let me talk to him about it tonight, I think it’s a great idea so I’m up for it.
Thanks!
[Your boss]"
Yay! I mean, its not like he has said yes or anything, so its not for sure. I'm just proud of myself for actually bringing it up! And even if he doesn't want to do it, its just cool that she likes the idea. I do hope he likes the idea, but if he doesn't I won't complain. Wouldn't want to teach french to a 7 year old who doesn't want to learn it! :)
I'll keep you guys updated!
Amy
PS. And man, if he says he does want to do it...you will be hearing a LOT about me freaking out and planning and making lessons and games and figuring out how to make this fun and easy.
sweet amy! that's awesome for you! I hope it works for you!
